More than a century before the term 'glass ceiling' entered the public lexicon, Sylvia Drake and Charity Bryant shattered myriad glass ceilings in Vermont. At a time when women were not supposed to own property, run a business, maintain a bank account, or write a last will and testament, these two ladies in Weybridge did all of these things. Now, a world premiere that the Vermont Symphony Orchestra will present on September 18 brings these two women, and their relationship with each other -- and with society overall -- back into the spotlight with a pioneering and courageous work.
