988: Help is three digits away

As September is the ninth month and we're approaching the eighth day, some crisis counselors would like you to know that Tuesday the 8th is 988 Day. It's a national day of action for those who help people in emotional distress to get the word out, that the former National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is now the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
People needing it should dial just three digits, nine eight eight. It's a free call.
The federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration launched the first 988 day in 2024.

The 988 Lifeline is active and accessible in every county in the state of New York and Vermont. The lifeline is a federally funded service.
