The Common Loon (Gavia immer) stars in a beautiful yet disturbing documentary about mercury contamination of wildlife and ecosystems in the Adirondacks. Meet these charismatic birds and researchers and volunteers from the Adirondack Cooperative Loon Program monitoring their behavior and reproductive success. Since mercury pollution can cause neurological damage forty eight states have fish consumption advisories. The ACLP's long term study on the detrimental effect of mercury on loons, a professional fish eater, provides a broader understanding of the impact of mercury pollution to wildlife and ecosystems throughout northeastern America.
