Wet weather can't keep the kids away from Dozer Day
Hundreds of families braved the gale that beset Airborne
Speedway June 11 to attend the fourth annual Dozer Day, where North
Country contractors bring dozens of earth-moving machines to Plattsburgh for
the kids to see, touch, and ride.
Mountain Lake PBS was on hand with lots of activities for children from coloring face masks, to temporary tattoos, to making name tags. Mountain Lake also had children's books, like Curious George and Thomas the Tank Engine, for parents to take home for their young readers.
Dozer Day helped promote Mountain Lake PBS' educational mission through STEM Connections, an initiative that promotes science, technology, engineering and math. There was no shortage of educational fodder here -- professional operators showed children how many of the complex machines at the event worked, and even let the kids try their hand at the controls!
The MLPBS tent became quite the popular hangout for those seeking respite from the rain, and many stuck around for the arts & crafts, and to say hi to Super Why, who made a surprise appearance.
The event was sponsored by the Plattsburgh Kiwanis, and benefited local charities and educational institutions, including Mountain Lake PBS. Mountain Lake PBS is grateful that so many families came to the event, and thanks all of the volunteers who didn?t mind getting a little wet to help out a good cause.
