The Mountain Lake PBS operates a Media Lab that is presently in hiatus.
When in operation, the Media Lab serves as a collaboration between with community partners and schools to develop educational programming. The Media Lab uses an action-learning style that allows for both youth led and youth involved television projects. Participants function as television professionals while working on a variety of programs. They learn camera techniques, non-linear editing, audio sweetening and graphic design in a hands-on production environment. The Media Lab also oversees individual educational and occupational plans for each participant.
FEATURES:
Unless a Death Occurs: Hazing Examined
An incisive documentary on the pervasiveness of hazing on America's high school and college campuses. The film traces the tragic steps of Walter Dean Jennings, a Plattsburgh State University freshman, who died of water intoxication. The documentary reflects the effort of an entire community to face deplorable facts and caution others against similar behaviors.
A Way from Home
A cautionary tale exploring the consequences of teen drug addiction. The dramatic feature was written, directed and shot with a crew of young adults at various locations throughout Plattsburgh. Members of the Media Lab acted in the film and assisted in post-production. This feature exemplifies the action- learning style of the Media Lab.
Young Voices: Out to be Heard
A teen focused and teen produced magazine format television show. Segments include interviews with Plattsburgh Mayor Dan Stewart, George Clinton of Parliament Funkadelic, who performs on the show's theme song.
