HOME IS WHERE THE WORDS ARE!

3 & 4 YEAR OLDS
  • Set aside time everyday to read your child.

  • Sing the alphabet song.

  • Do alphabet puzzles with your child.

  • Use inexpensive plastic letters to help your child make their name or simple words.

  • Help your child make letters out of clay, cookie dough, or salt dough.

  • Encourage your child to tell stories to you. Write down the stories that your child dictates. Bind them into a book. Have your child read the books he creates to you or another sibling.

  • Use words to create rhymes. For example, “Can you think of a word that sounds the same as hat?”

  • Write letters on seashells, rocks or blocks, help your child use these to build simple words.

  • Encourage your child to write letters even if they make up the spelling and construction of the letters.
