Restaurant Reading

  • Have your child read the signs on the restaurant to find the one you are going to. Notice the little chunks in the words that are the same as in other words. (Ex: the “ing” in Burger King)

  • While you are waiting have your child read the specials on the board.

  • Encourage your child to read the menu.

  • Hunt for different letters on the menu.

  • Find a word that begins with the same letter. (Ex: “Can you find a word that begins with the same letter as hamburger?”)

  • Find a word that rhymes with another word. (Ex: “Can you find a word that sounds the same as hot?”)

  • Make up a silly story about a word on the menu. (example: “What if the hotdogs took over the kitchen?”)

  • Draw an illustration for the story on the place mat.
