Local PBS station Grabs Three Awards
New York State Broadcasters Association Honors Mountain Lake PBS’ Productions

PLATTSBURGH, NY – JULY 13, 2010 – Mountain Lake PBS captured three awards at the 44th Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting, an annual contest sponsored by the New York State Broadcasters Association (NYSBA) recognizing outstanding achievement in broadcasting among New York’s television and radio stations. The awards were presented at the Sagamore Resort in Lake George, NY.
“It’s an honor to receive these awards from NYSBA,” said Alice Recore, President and CEO of Mountain Lake PBS. “It’s very gratifying to see my staff members recognized at the state level for the impressive work they do.”
Mountain Lake Journal Extra was awarded the “Outstanding Public Affairs Program or Series.” Launched in January, this is Mountain Lake PBS’ newest series. This magazine-style public affairs program has regular features on the arts, culture, health, local businesses and more. The winning episode was produced by Thom Hallock, Derek Muirden, and Jack Laduke.
The “Outstanding Documentary Program” was awarded to Dead Reckoning: Champlain in America, a state-of-the-art animated documentary about Samuel de Champlain and the people who taught him how to explore and survive in the wilds of North America. This program, produced by Frank Christopher, will premiere on PBS stations across the nation in the fall of 2010.
Rustic Living, awarded the “Outstanding Locally Produced TV Show”, showcases local artists and craftspeople using what nature has provided to create unique pieces of art. The program has featured artists working in the rustic style from across the Adirondacks to Montreal. Rustic Living is produced by Aubrey Bresett and Derek Muirden.
“Our production team is very honored,” said Colin Powers, Director of Production and Programming. “Winning in three diverse categories suggests that we are meeting our mission to educate our community, New York State and the country by telling regional stories backed up by great educational resources.”
